UCDO Successfully Launches Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Project in Tarmaber Woreda 2026-04-05 08:45:46 |
| With financial support from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom, and under the strategic leadership of TIMRAN in the Amhara Region, the Universal Community Development Organization (UCDO) successfully conducted the launch and sensitization workshop of its project titled “Enhancing Participation, Representation and Leadership of Women in Peacebuilding and Decision-Making Processes” on April 4, 2026, in Debresina Town, Tarmaber Woreda.\\r\\nThis initiative is part of the broader “Women Count for Peace” program implemented through a consortium of national partners, including Empathy for Life Integrated Development Association (ELiDA) a women-led, rights-based civil society organization and the Advocacy Center for Democracy and Development (ACDD). Within this consortium, TIMRAN leads implementation in the Amhara Region, while ELiDA and ACDD coordinate interventions in Tigray and Oromia regions, respectively.\\r\\nThe launch workshop, held at the Andinet Meeting Hall of the Woreda Agriculture Office, brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including woreda sector office heads and experts (Administration, WCSA, Finance, Agriculture, Health, Education, Peace and Security, Youth and Sport), as well as representatives of women’s associations, community-based organizations (CBOs), youth groups, religious leaders, elders, and persons with disabilities from Debre Meaza, Armania, and Dokakit kebeles.\\r\\nThe program was officially opened by the Tarmaber Woreda Administration Office and facilitated through engaging and inclusive discussions led by Mrs. Sisay W/Medhen (Head of the Woreda Finance Office) and Mrs. Rediet Taye (Head of the Woreda Women, Children and Social Affairs Office). UCDO presented the project objectives, key activities, and implementation approaches, followed by active participant reflections, questions, and clarifications.\\r\\nThe discussions were highly constructive and resulted in a strong shared commitment among stakeholders to work collaboratively, ensure inclusive beneficiary targeting, and strengthen coordination, monitoring, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.\\r\\nThe workshop was officially closed by the Woreda Administrator, Mr. Samuel Mersha, who emphasized the importance of timely and coordinated action, effective stakeholder engagement from woreda to kebele level, and scaling up best practices to maximize impact for women, youth, and vulnerable groups.\\r\\nThis successful launch marks a significant step toward advancing women’s meaningful participation and leadership in peacebuilding and decision-making, while strengthening inclusive governance and sustainable peace at the community level.\\r\\nUCDO extends its sincere appreciation to FCDO, ELiDA, TIMRAN, ACDD, government partners, and community stakeholders for their strong collaboration and commitment to achieving impactful and lasting results.\\r\\n |
